» ABOUT DEPARTMENT
|
|
The subject
“Biotechnology” is the in-thing in this modern era of
sophisticated equipment and a focus on the goal of increasing the age of
human beings and their quality of life. The applications of Biotechnology
are extendable to every aspect of our daily life. Whether it is the
treatment of the wastage to minimize pollution and save environment or
observing the diseased parts inside the human body without a single
physical cut – all utilize the knowledge of this subject.
B Tech Biotechnology
Department of Biotechnology offers a B.Tech programme that provides a
strong foundation in Biotechnology, which can lead students to both
industry as well as research/academia. Our programme spans over a period
of four years divided into 8 semesters. It offers a set of courses
covering major areas of Biotechnology. Besides it, students get an
opportunity to take practical experiments in Biochemistry, Microbiology,
Cell Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Tissue Culture and
Bio-Informatics. The department also offers a collection of over 1000
books on specialized technical subjects.
Our aim is to train our students with a technical
base for employment in the diverse areas of Biotechnology where the
industry based arena is expanding rapidly.

Dr
B. R. Marwah heads the department. A team of committed and research-loving faculty has
produced good results in the past.
We also hope to provide R&D along with studies according to the
course curriculum to our students to give them better exposure to the
developments in Biotechnology.
The
mission of the HoD is:
To accomplish scientific work that is useful to the society to
eliminate poverty.

Our
laboratories are well ventilated, spacious and best equipped in
respect of all the instruments, glassware, chemicals and bio-chemicals
required for the class experiments as well as research work and quality
teaching. All Biotechnological experiments according the K.U.K. syllabus
are being performed by students regularly in the laboratories itself and
are well versed with the use of sophisticated equipments such as an Elisa
Plate Reader, SDS–PAGE electrophoresis, Agarose Gel electrophoresis, cold
high-speed centrifuge, analytical Sartorius balance and a PCR from USA
with Lab India Company at Gurgaon. The department has procured a
Millipore system for providing Milli Q grade water for experimental
purposes. There is a provision for a full course in Bioinformatics and
laboratory is equipped with 15 IBM computers. The Department has recently
purchased a Fermentor and BOD incubator for carrying out research
activities related to Project work of the students and Faculty members as
a part of research developing programme of the department.
