DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering was established in 1998. Ever since its establishment it has stood as an epitome of excellence in technical education. The department has excellent infrastructure and faculty to provide the ideal technical education to meet the industry standards. It houses updated laboratories, library facilities for its students and well-trained and experienced faculty teaching various courses. The goal of this department is to be outstanding in every aspect of its function, namely graduate and post graduate teaching, and sustain excellence in research. The department has sanctioned faculty strength of 45 (1 P + 1 Associate Prof + 7 A.P + 30 L + 1 Network Administrator +3 TA + 1 Project Associate), and has a healthy mix of senior and junior faculty. The senior faculty of the department is drawn from reputed institutes such as IITs , NITs and DRDO. Several junior faculty members are in the process of completing their Ph.D.

FACILITIES
The Department has state of the art equipment and the following well maintained high end computing labs with licensed softwares:

1. BASIC PROGRAMMING LABORATORY
   There are two basic programming laboratories in the college for teaching the basic fundamentals of programming to first year students. The laboratory course includes introduction to C programming, data structures in C and object oriented programming in C++.
2. DBMS LABORATORY
   To teach the most important part of computer projects i.e. Database, the college has setup DBMS laboratory for making students understand the fundamentals as well as advanced concepts of Database. Oracle, SQL Server, and MS-Access is part of the curriculum in the laboratory.
3. INTERNET LABORATORY
   Today from buying flowers to booking tickets, everything is being done on the Internet, so considering this purpose, the college has its own Internet application laboratory where in addition to fundamentals of Internet, Multimedia course, Virtual Reality course is also being delivered.
4. DATA STRUCTURE LABORATORY
   Data Structure is related with the mathematical and logical representation of particular organization of data. In this laboratory various data structure algorithms i.e. arrays, queues, trees, stacks, graphs are studies and implements in programmes.
5. OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING LABORATORY
   This laboratory introduces objects, classes, inheritance, interfaces, and packages. Each discussion focuses on how these concepts relate to the real world, while simultaneously providing an introduction to the syntax of the Java programming language.
6. OPERATING SYSTEM LABORATORY
   Operating system is the interface between computer hardware and a user; with the kernel it is responsible for the management and coordination of activities and the sharing of the limited resources of the computer .In this lab students learn to make programs related to scheduling also.
7. ALGORITHM DESIGN LABORATORY
   To teach students the programming exhaustively , college has set up advanced programming laboratory, which deals with the subject of “Design and Analysis of Algorithm.
8. COMPUTER HARDWARE TECNOLOGIES LABORATORY
   “How actually the computer works?” is the first question that comes into everyone’s mind whenever we hear the word computer. This is the laboratory, which covers all the Hardware aspects of computer engineering.
9. MOBILE COMPUTING LABORATORY
   Mobile Computing is a technology that allows transmission of data, via a computer, without being connected to a fixed physical link. In this laboratory students work on various mobile computing software.
10. SOFTWARE ENGINEERING LABORATORY
    In this laboratory the Rational Rose is used to teach the students the various steps involved in developing the software.
11. UNIX and LINUX LABORATORY
    The importance of learning Linux cannot be underestimated in present day dynamic technical scenario, so the college has explicitly created Linux laboratory for teaching the Linux operating system.
12. WEB ENGINEERING LABORATORY
    Web engineering is the application of systematic, disciplined and quantifiable approaches to design, produce, deploy, operate and maintain web based software products. The laboratory is used in developing web based software as well as teaching of web designing course.
13. R&D LABORATORY
    For Minor and Major Projects to be submitted by computer science and IT Students, college has two R&D laboratories so that students can devote enough time in developing Projects. Each student is assigned individual PCs for the Project work.
14. NEURAL NETWORK LABORATORY
    Our goal is to introduce students to a powerful class of model i.e. the Neural Network Model. This is a broad term, which includes diverse models and approaches. This laboratory also covers the concepts of artificial intelligence.
15. GENERAL COMPUTING LABORATORY
    Internet facility for all students from 9 AM to 10 PM is available in this laboratory. Students can upgrade themselves to advanced technologies and latest information through this laboratory. For efficient and uniform distribution of the available bandwidth, the department has CYBERROAM software.
16. ORACLE LABORATORY
    With considering the importance of Oracle in the IT industry college has inked a MoU with Oracle India Pvt. Ltd and established specialized Oracle lab where students get training by expert faculty on various Oracle Database 10g programs.

CISCO NETWORKING LOCAL ACADEMY AGREEMENT (VERSION 3.1 AP)
Under this agreement, the Cisco Networking Academy Program is designed to teach various levels of students how to design, build and maintain computer networks for local, national and global business.

THAPAR UNIVERSITY
MoU with Thapar University, Patiala is for collaborative Research and Development programme between the two institutions. It provides facility for the faculty members to register at the Thapar University for Ph.D work and carry out research work with joint guidance .
